Seven Sisters

I search for seven sisters
In the morning solstice sky.
Have they all gone to bed?
Are they timid, are they shy?

Let me see your faces,
my beautiful winter stars.
Stay out, stay out to play
with Venus, Jupiter, Mars.

In Japan they named you Subaru,
in the West you're Pleiades.
No matter what we call you,
your light is sure to please.

You are the bright spots
in my winter, cold and damp.
In clear skies I catch a glimpse
of each sister with her lamp.

I know it's been a long night,
the longest of the year.
I can wait another day
till the next time you appear.

Sleep tight heavenly bodies,
take your beauty rest.
Of all the stars in the sky,
I will always love you best.
